If you've been banned but you're not too sure are to why or what to do then read on.

Because of the nature of the internet, security is a major issue and IRC is no exception, due to this we are forced to take measures against common security threats which sometimes leads to innocent users being banned.

The most common threat we have is abuse of open proxies, to combat these we run an open proxy monitor which checks each connecting IP for an open proxy on common ports and also against some fairly large DNSBL's. It is the checking against DNSBL's which causes a lot of users to be banned at no fault of their own. The symptom of this is a ban message containing the phrase "Open proxy found on your host", in this ban message you will also be provided with a link and in order to prevent the ban from being re-added when it expires you MUST visit the link and follow the instructions provided on that page in order to have your IP removed from the DNSBL (you should be able to locate your IP at the top left of this page in orange if required). Once you have submitted for your IP to be removed the site in charge of the DNSBL will check to make sure the proxy which was reported to be open is closed and secure before removing it from their listing, this may take some time to go through the system completely and as such the ban will remain for a minimum of 2 days.

The other ban's you may experience will generally be manually set, you will receive these ban's if you have broken a server rule or ignored the instructions of an IRC Operator (Admin). The ban message for these types of bans will on most occasions follow the form of "[ User: | Reason: | Duration: ]" each section will obviously be filled out with the nickname of the offender, a reason for the ban and the duration of the ban. These bans rarely get removed before the duration of the ban expires though you may alsways contact us in game if you feel the ban should be reviewed.
