If you get the error "Unable to connect : java.security.AccessControlException : access denied (java.net.SocketPermission 85.255.217.7:6667 connect,resolve)" when using the chat applet it means your firewall is blocking the connection to port 6667, in this case you need to use the mibbit applet instead, the link to this is at the bottom of the chat page after you accept the rules.
